In recent months, Google has implemented significant changes in the Gmail mobile app. Some of these include a new reply interface for the Android app, AI-powered summaries for long email threads with Gemini integration, and a smarter search experience. Now, Google is elevating the ‘Smart Reply’ experience in the Gmail mobile app using Gemini.
Google Supports Gmail with Gemini through Smart Reply
According to Google’s announcement, when you open the reply window for an email, you’ll see up to three responses generated by Gemini at the bottom. These suggestions take into account the entire email thread to increase relevance. So, instead of just responding to a single email, the replies will be more contextually appropriate for the entire conversation.
Gmail will offer multiple response options at the bottom. By long-pressing on each option, you can preview the Gemini-generated response. Once you tap on a suggestion, it will be added to the reply window, and you can edit it if needed. This feature provides a quick solution for sending replies while also allowing for personalization.
The Gemini-powered Smart Replies are available to Workspace account holders subscribed to Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, and Education Premium plans. Additionally, regular Google account holders who are subscribed to the Google One AI Premium plan will also have access to this feature.
Currently, this feature only works in English, but support for other languages is expected in the future. Lastly, users need to be enrolled in the Google Workspace Labs program to access it.
